CHIMITEX S.p.A. has a specific range of products for the food and nutraceutical industry, developed by the dedicated sector Nutrytex.
We have the sanitary approvals as requested by the Italian and European laws for the marketing of chemicals for the food industry; we also have a specific warehouse dedicated to the storage of food additives. Chimitex also has the HACCP manual.
Nutraceutics: an exploration in progress
Nutraceutics is a recent term, born at the end of 80’s, but the notion to which it refers is very ancient: the nutraceutic foods (or functional foods) naturally contain high-concentration particular nutrients; or are enriched with synthetic extracts. Amongst nutraceutics we can list probiotics, antioxidants, Omega-3, Omega-6, enzyme complexes and vitamins.
Chimitex food additives
The chemicals for food industry are sustances that are added to foods in order to modify the look, to improve the preservation or enhance the flavour.
Colorants:
The food colorants are chemical additives that do not have a nutritional value. Their function is to increase the palatability of a food, giving a particularly pleasant colour, or enhancing / restoring the original colour, if the production process affects it.

- E170 CALCIUM CARBONATE
- E171 TITANIUM DIOXIDE
- E172 IRON OXIDES AND HYDROXIDES
Preservatives:
The chemical preservatives are substances that are added to food in order to slow down the deterioration during the time frame between the production and the consumption. They can be antimicrobial so as to prevent the proliferation of micro-organisms, or antioxidant in order to inhibit the chemical reactions stimulated by air or heat.

Antioxidants and acidity regulators
The acidity regulators are chemical additives that modify the pH of foods, that is acidity or alkalinity.
Maintaining the right pH (usually raising it) has a preservation aim, because it prevents the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria like Clostridium Botulinum.
- E300-E399
- E300 ASCORBIC ACID
- E330 CITRIC ACID
- E331 TRISODIUM CITRATE

- TRISODIUM PHOSPHATE
- E340 MONOPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE
- DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE
Thickeners, stabilizers and emulsifiers
Thickeners and stabilizers are food additives that adjust the consistency and the state of the food, providing a specific viscosity or keeping the chemical and physical state. Emulsifiers enable the mixability between two substances, mixability that would not be possible normally; for instance they are used for the uniform dispersion of a colourant inside the food.
- E400-E499
- E420 SORBITOL
- E422 GLYCEROL
- E450 DISODIUM DIPHOSPHATE
- TRISODIUM DIPHOSPHATE
- TETRASODIUM DIPHOSPHATE
- TETRAPOTASSIUM DIPHOSPHATE
Acidity regulators and anticaking agents
The anticaking agents prevent granular and powder foods from forming solid blocks, something that normally happens because of hygroscopy or fat molecules presence. So the foods can be used for a longer time and the obstruction of the machines pipes is avoided (for instance the coffee vending machines).

Humectants:
Humectants are hygroscopic food additives for food industry having the purpose to catch the water vapor on the foods surface and keep it, so that the humidity of the product can be kept. So the food is palatable and pleasant for a longer time.
- E1000-E1999
- E1518 GLYCERYL TRIACETATE -TRIACETIN

Sweeteners:
Sweeteners are chemicals used in the food industry to sweeten foods, with an effect similar to sugar, but with a much lower caloric intake, so that you can have a dietetic food maintaning a pleasant and sweet taste.
